The Hobsons Bay City Band was first formed in 1996 under the name of the Wyndham Symphonic Band Inc (WSB). Starting from with a small group of dedicated musicians, it rapidly grew into a band of 20 that produced a strong, clear sound. Early rehearsals were held in various venues around the City of Wyndham until a suitable venue could be secured.

In March 1999 the Hobsons Bay City Council began a search to find a band that they could call their own and to represent the City of Hobsons Bay.

The former WSB won this bid and in 2000 was appointed the official Band for the City of Hobsons Bay. This appointment saw a change of name and uniform and gained the generous support of the Hobsons Bay City Council.

Regular performances are mostly held around the Hobsons Bay and surrounding areas and include a variety of functions from community events such as the Bayside Festival, Williamstown Festival, Laverton Festival, Summer Sounds Concert Series, and the Point Cook Sunday Craft Market. Other performances may include school fetes, entertaining residents in local nursing homes, and many more.

Members of the Band range from beginners to professional musicians aged from 7 to 70. Though the Band primarily consists of brass, woodwind and percussion players, everyone is welcome to join.

We are a group of people who love to sing and perform at local events. There are no auditions to join the choir and there is no experience necessary, just a passion for singing.

The Laverton Choir was formed early in 2009 by a group of people keen to sing and was administered and funded by the Laverton Community Renewal Centre.

In January 2010 the choir became a self-administering body known as the Laverton Community Choir. We were also joined in 2010 by our current Musical Director, Chris Ramm.

Laverton Community Choir is a non-religious, non-denominational, not-for-profit community organisation and is a member of the Australian National Choral Association.

Sponsorship is a high priority for our choir, as without it we cannot continue to perform and grow. Members fees and fundraising cover ongoing costs, however thanks to our sponsors we have been able to purchase much needed equipment and music.

We would like to sincerely thank our sponsors to date, P12 College Laverton and also The Bendigo Community Bank Altona/Laverton/Point Cook

We would also like to thank all our friends of the choir who have helped us in any way at all whether it be through small donations of time or money. Our choir relies very much on the generosity of our local community and to continue well into the future we must be continually looking for any opportunity in this area. The choir will promote and advertise all organizations or businesses that have helped us either by sponsorship or donation of goods. For sponsorship opportunities please feel free to contact us. We are a community group who are here to serve in our capacity as a choir.

The Altona Homestead provides visitors of all ages the opportunity to take a step back to the time of our early settlers to the region of Altona. Located overlooking the tranquil Logan Reserve in close proximity to the Altona foreshore, the homestead is a unique and treasured part of Altona’s heritage. On display are objects, pictures, paintings and collections that reflect everyday life from 1840 through to the mid 1900’s. The property has been utilised by a number of families as a residence, was used as holiday accommodation, was the council office and meeting place for the Altona Shire before Altona gained city status and moved to new chambers, and was used by a number of community organisations as well as Altona Historical Society.

Restoration works commenced in 1988 and through careful planning and funding provided by the then Altona City Council, ensuring preservation of the homestead for the people of Altona and visitors to enjoy and learn about Altona’s and the western suburb’s past.

Apart from taking a journey back in history, visitors can enjoy numerous themed displays held throughout the year and can also enjoy a delicious, traditional Devonshire Tea with homemade scones, jam and cream within the homestead courtyard and building on the first Sunday of the month from February to December.

They began in January 2006 at the Louis Joel Centre in Altona with around 16 members and now boast a group of around 100 members (who incidently, have made it very clear to its members and visitors that "patchwork police" aren't allowed in the door!!)
