Our program provides trained volunteers to Police stations, to support young people in Police interviews, where parents or guardians can’t be contacted or can’t attend.
The Independent Person is there to compensate for the inherent disadvantage young people in police custody face when interviewed by police and clarify to them what is happening and why. YRIPP also seeks to divert young people from future offending through early intervention at the point of police contact. We are currently looking for volunteers to attend police stations in the west, especially at stations in Hobson's Bay. We provide volunteers with extensive training and ongoing support.
